571 Squamous Cell Carcinoma After Adjustable Gastric Banding - a Case Report

Abstract Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) is a widely accepted and effective bariatric procedure. Gastric cancer following surgery uncommon, with only few occurrences reported. There are nine incidences of adenocarcinoma after recorded in the literature. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by comparison, encountered far less overall stomach malignancies. We describe case 69-year-old woman who, seven years having band placed, developed squamous at site band. The patient initially presented epigastric pain, on endoscopy there was evidence an ulcer cardia. Extensive adhesions were also visualised around gastroesophageal junction as result Biopsies staging laparoscopy confirmed T3 N0, M0 R0 SCC stomach. This first report to document this rare sequela events. postulate that secondary chronic irritation Whilst rare, symptoms vague, argument maintain high index for suspicion even procedures.
